In Uniform's Chosen Charities
In Uniform supports Multiple
Sclerosis New Zealand, Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust and our own
scholarship fund for youth in the outdoors.
In Uniform has decided to support two external
charities - Multiple Sclerosis Society of New Zealand
and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust – and do a
fabulous job of offering that support. Our money (and
yours) split many ways soon diminishes in
effectiveness. Therefore In Uniform New Zealand Limited
pledge our support in both money, time and focused
effort to our chosen charities. In Uniform is fully
committed to these projects and, as a result, is
restricted in its ability to participate in other
sponsorship opportunities at this time.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease affecting many
New Zealanders, young and old. There are literally
hundreds of wonderful, worthy charities out there – and
we would love to give something to every single one of
them, but to what end?
Our current focus is to work with our supplier
network to replace 1 six year-old laptop, currently
shared between four Multiple Sclerosis staff members with at least four
brand new up-to-date computers. If you can help in ANY
way please get in touch:

About the Multiple Sclerosis Society of New Zealand
We are a non-profit organisation formed to provide
on-going support, education and advocacy for people
with MS and their support networks. It also aims to
educate the general public, employers and health
professionals about MS and actively funds key research
into the condition.
The Society was established in 1967 and today there
are 18 regional Societies from Northland to Southland.
Each regional Society is autonomous, and appoints one
office holder to represent them on the National
Council.
MSSNZ Services
MSSNZ offers a wide variety of services, some of our
which are described in this leaflet. This assistance is
available to people with MS, family members and their
carers. Information on any of our activities is
available from National Office.
Field Workers
The Field Worker Service has been operating for more
than twenty years. It has developed into a vital and
high profile service, available to all members at no
charge.
Field Workers are trained to give advice on a wide
range of matters concerning MS as well as arranging
social groups, exercise classes, support meetings and
service referrals.
All regional Societies have skilled and experienced
professionals providing one-on-one support and
information.
Youth Network
The Youth Support Network provides an opportunity
for younger people with MS to receive support from
their peers.
Information Service
The National Information Service provides a range of
resources about MS, including:
- MS
VOICE: Our quarterly publication informing stakeholders
of current MS issues in New Zealand, and world-wide.
- MSSNZ Information Series: Specialised resources related
to the specific symptoms and effects of MS.
- MSSNZ Library: A variety of resources about MS and
related topics, available for loan.
- MSSNZ Website at www.msnz.org.nz: A source of
up-to-date online information about MS and related
topics, including news and events, latest research
developments and access to all MSSNZ published
information resources.
Research Programme
Our Research Fund partners with leading scientists
and researchers to support crucial research into
understanding MS.
A key recent project is the National MS Prevalence
Study, which provides the first accurate picture of MS
incidence in New Zealand in over twenty years.
MSSNZ Awards
MSSNZ administers two awards. The Dorothy Newman
Scholarship funds tertiary study of up to $7,500 for
two people with MS each year. The Scholarship
recognises the challenge of an MS diagnosis and
supports retraining in employment that may be neccesary
for those with the condition.
The Esme Tombleson Award honours the contributions
members make to their wider community. Awards for
'Person with MS of the Year' and 'Carer of the Year'
are presented annually.
Advocacy
MSSNZ liaises with allied organisations and
government bodies to ensure policies concerning people
with MS receive considered input from those who will be
affected.

About Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter service provides a
dedicated 24-hour, seven day a week service. This
service often makes a life or death difference for
thousands of New Zealanders.
Many of our qualifying organistaions are great and
worthy charities in their own right, however the rescue
helicopter trusts has the potential to benefit each and
every one of us. Today you are a Customs officer,
tomorrow a tramper needing help. A surf lifesaver
today, injured in a car rally tomorrow.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter is necessary when:
- a patient is very sick or badly injured
- medics think getting to hospital quickly will
make a big difference
- an accident has occurred in a difficult
location
Westpac Rescue Helicopters are like a fully equipped
intensive care unit in the sky. From a defibrillator
for a premature baby to full life support systems,
Westpac Rescue Helicopters are equipped to deal with
any situation.
Rescue helicopter service and Westpac Westpac was
approached to sponsor the service by pioneer rescue
helicopter pilot, the late Peter Button, in 1981.
Westpac is the naming rights sponsor of the
Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch rescue
helicopter services. In Uniform supports Westpac which
in turn are an associate sponsor of the West Coast,
Tauranga, Taupo, Palmerston North and Rotorua rescue
helicopter trusts. Combined, these services carry out
over 3,000 rescues each year.
