In Uniform Scholarships
In Uniform has established a modest fund to assist members’ children,
between the age of thirteen and eighteen, to participate in outdoor activity.
We have left the brief purposefully board, opening it to many more applicants.
"in outdoor activity" maybe interpreted many ways, from a school camp to a
sports trip. The award can not be used for the purchase of equipment -
except in very special circumstances. Applications are accepted
throughout the year. Allow at least six weeks from initial application.
Ensure you leave sufficient time before your event or activity, as no awards
will be paid in arrears.
Although parental support is vital and encouraged, it is the sole
responsibility of the recipients to complete each aspect of the application
themselves. Assistance in any
of the key areas is available to all applicants from our selection panel.
The scholarships will be awarded based on four key factors, which are
weighted by the importance we place on area:
| 1. |
Application |
10% |
| 2. |
Interview |
40% |
| 3. |
Need |
30% |
| 4. |
Merit |
20% |
These factors and the weighting process are explained below
1. Application: It is important that the applicant appears to be making
their very best effort to complete all aspects of the written application.
If an issue exists with filling out the paperwork it can be completed over
the phone or with assistance from one of our regional support staff.
2. Interview: The interview, in person, by video conference or tele-conference,
will help us to get to know the applicant, who they are and how they tick –
we keep it as casual as we can, knowing this can be nerve racking for
anyone. It is far more of a chat than an interview. We just want to know
where our money is going and what ‘return on investment’ is available.
3. Need: This portion of the process is based on the student's financial
situation. Usually awarded scholarships that have scored highly in this area
cover all or the greater portion of costs. Often needs-based private
scholarships require the awardees to be distinguished students, we require
you to be a distinguished human being..
4. Merit: The monetary value may be negligible, however if the scholarship
helps to motivate the student and promotes their involvement in outdoor
pursuits of any kind, then the merit is very high.
Each area is graded out of 20 based on objective and subjective factors such
and grades, awards, potential and personality.
No single area carries enough weight to gain a scholarship on its own.
Applicants must perform well in several areas.
The formula is: Percentage weight X Grade out of 20 = Points awarded
| |
1. |
Application |
10% |
10 X 20 = 200 |
| |
2. |
Interview |
40% |
40 X 20 = 800 |
| |
3. |
Need |
30% |
30 X 20 = 600 |
| |
4. |
Merit |
20% |
20 X 20 = 400 |
Giving a possible top score of 2000 points.
Applicants with less than 1250 points will not be considered for a
scholarship.
Below is an illustration of the importance placed on different areas of
application
Please note this and ensure you practice in the most important areas.
Applicant “A” scores well on the initial application (18 out of 20) this
carries a weighted value of 180 (18 X 10 = 180)
They also score well on the Merit section (20 out of 20) giving a value of
400 and a combined total of 580.
Applicant “B” aces the interview (say 19 out of a possible 20). Applicant
“B” has a score of 760 already, and stands a better chance of gaining the
funding they seek
